Welcome back to another episode of Queens Podcast! We’re so excited to tell you all about the epic Queen Lili’uokalani of Hawaii. She was an epic force for the people of Hawaii and just, like… just like a really nice lady.
Born into the Hawaiian royal family, Lily (as we affectionately call her), enjoyed an exceptional education and closeness with her extended royal family. A royal girl that was close to her siblings and wasn’t married off at 7 years old? How refreshing!
Speaking of refreshing, we’ve paired Lily with a dangerously delicious cocktail called the Aloha ‘Oe.
Fun fact: Patreon supporters can watch Nathan create this cocktail in our very first Booze Clues for all level Patreon supporters. Congrats to Diana for guessing it!
We chose this tropical cocktail named for the Hawaiian tune because our girl Lily wrote the classic song! What? Yeah, not Elvis, but a native royal penned this beautiful chill ditty before her days as queen.
Sadly, Lily didn’t reign long, but her impression on the islands is REAL, y’all. She founded several social and charity programs that are still going strong and supporting the people of Hawaii to this day. And for that- we raise a glass!
Some of the sources we used for this show:
- Wikipedia (duh)
- Lili’uokalani’s autobiography
- Also, this really interesting read about the Hawaiian smallpox pandemic.
