Victoria Woodhull (part 2)

And we’re back! So, when we last left Vicky she was putting an end to a super toxic relationship and is running off with her new man, James Blood aka The Blood Colonel.

Hmm… just something about a man in uniform that makes you want to leave your abusive husband and run off to New York. Once there, Vicky and the fam start making a name for themselves. As we mention in the show, we originally wanted to make this a two-parter episode, but now realize that to do that we’d have to skim over the historical relevance of some of these minor players in her story. This chick really is like Forest Gump… just kind of showing up everywhere.

And that first supporting role in her story is that of famous rich person, Cornelius Vanderbilt. He took Vicky and her sister Tennessee under his wing and taught them the sexy world of finance. Oh, also in this episode we learn Katy knows shit all about the stock market.

Since Vicky is so into breaking barriers and stereotypes, they go on to be the first female stock brokers in America, like NBD. At first, viewed as a novelty, they did pretty good for themselves, though history is a bag of dicks and they were more famous for their scandalous” fashion choices, but whatever.

You can’t tell from the picture above, but she is showing sooo much ankle.

In this episode, Vicky also falls in with “it” crowd, and by that we clearly mean the suffragettes of the late 1800’s. DUH. We meet some major players like Susan B Anthony and Elizabeth Cady Stanton, who we have decided are the Beyonce and Lady Gaga of the movement (clearly).

Clearly, I am looking at two pictures of the same person.

We also start to make some enemies in this episode because you can’t be notorious without shaking things up a little bit!

So, grab a drink and enjoy. Seriously, let us know what you think of this episode in the comments below. Cheers, bitches!

  • The History Chicks have an excellent episode on Vicky.
  • Woodhull Rising is an incredible site dedicated to Victoria Woodhull and offers a directory more or less, in case you need help remembering who is who in this crazy family.
  • Nicole Evelina‘s page has some great and detailed articles on her life. I specifically found her articles on Canning the most helpful.
